14.00 – 14.45: Session 3: Panel Discussion:

Combined mobility – mobility services and innovation - what is beneficial to cities – what works to aid modal shift?

Moderator: David van Kesteren, Taxistop, Belgium

Discussion points:

  • Smart cities need sustainable mobility - but how far will they make cities more pleasant places to live in and reduce the dominance of the car?
  • How will new mobility solutions or “point to point” schemes like car2go, DriveNow and Autolib’ work alongside public transport, car-sharing, bicycles and taxis? Will they conflict or complement them?
  • Smart cities are joining up mobility options to combine with public transport using simplified integrated payments systems

Participants:  Lili Matson (Transport for London); Gunnar Heipp (Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft); Bernhard Ensink (European Cyclist’s Federation); Graham Parkhurst (University of the West of England, Bristol).

 

15.00 – 17.00: Technical Visit

The technical visit will depart at 15.00 run until 17.00. It will allow delegates a chance to participate in a guided tour of the on-street car-sharing (car club) parking bays, docking station for Barclays Cycle Hire (bike-sharing) and “shared space” (innovative street design on a large scale) in Exhibition Road, South Kensington, outside the underground station. The tour will be led by Chas Ball (Carplus) and Jon Little (Project Centre).

IMPORTANT PRACTICAL INFORMATION:

Delegates who wish to join the tour will travel to South Kensington by London Underground and should pre-purchase a Zone 1/2 Travelcard or use an Oystercard. The base for the tour will be a pub (the Hoop & Toy) where bags may be safely stored during the tour. After the tour delegates may wish to enjoy a drink (cash bar) at the pub.
